Whether you are leading an intact or an ad-hoc team, and whether you lead them locally, globally, or even virtually, your job is to have people work well together and produce intended results. This two-part course focuses on how to create, lead, and manage an effective team. Parts 1 and 2 are separated by one week so that you can put what you learned in the first class into action. Then return to share what happened and receive coaching to expand your leadership and management skills and results. You will:

  • Evaluate your project using the Six Success Elements template and identify areas to strengthen;
  • Learn how to effectively include “soft” and “hard” measures and why they are important;
  • Understand how to work with problems and setbacks to move toward results;
  • Learn the developmental stages all teams go through, how to assess your team, and what actions to take to move it to the next level of effectiveness.

Prerequisites recommended: Participants should be accountable for leading a team that has a specific goal to accomplish. Although not required, it is beneficial to have taken Commitment Management System (TOD-4103).

This class will explore how different people think about things, why different people make decisions in different ways, and why personal values drive actions. When we must make decisions without having all the information we need, or when there’s no agreement in the workplace, it’s stressful. Personal power, accountability, and responsibility are the core values that affect our responses to uncertain conditions. When these core values are strong, we have more personal resilience. By exploring the values that underlie our beliefs and actions, we can question ourselves about the structures we have created to make sense of the world. Through coaching, class participants will learn to make wiser decisions while managing ambiguity more comfortably. Participants will learn to:

  • Let go of outdated beliefs, protocols, and procedures;
  • Understand their core values and how they affect their behavior;
  • Be curious rather than fearful of the unknown and increase their tolerance for ambiguity;
  • Make decisions without having complete information;
  • Surrender control, welcome the unexpected.
